On Sunday, August 20, 2000 in the Ventura County Star (Pulse section), there were several essays discussing the answer to the question "What's the Somis intersection Solution?"
One of the articles is by "yours truly" in collaboration with Jim Churchill, from Ojai(See the file above). We felt that having one person from the east county (me) and another from the west county (Jim) gives a good blend for county-wide thought.
As you will see if you read it, we believe that Moorpark and Somis are being short-changed by short-sighted county leadership who don't seem to want to follow the requirements for long term transportation projects. They seem intent on doing things that could pave the way for Somis' demise and could increase truck traffic in Moorpark to make things worse than they already are.
Stay tuned for a formal rebuttal to some of the comments from our Supervisor, Judy Mikels--who also had an article published about the topic.
Not surprisingly, she does not agree with Jim and I about what to do at the Somis 118/34 intersection. She has, for whatever reason, "left out" some important information in her article that you need to know to be able to fully evaluate what she has said.
We have been in close contact with leaders of "Save our Somis" and we know some facts that, had they been included in Ms. Mikels' commentary, you would get a VERY different impression of how reasonable (or unreasonable) her statements are.
