Open Space and Greenbelts

Dr. Roseann Mikos was the ONLY councilmember candidate in 2000, and again the ONLY candidate in 2004, who has a history of being an unfailing advocate for preserving open space and greenbelts.

She has not only talked the talk, but she has walked the walk, to really DO something to preserve open space.

Moorpark passed a strong Moorpark SOAR because of what Roseann Mikos did to make it happen. Without her leadership, persistence, and vision, Moorpark would not have any meaningful open space protection.

Since then, others jumped on the bandwagon, once they realized that Mikos' vision was what the voters approved--when 68% of them voted for SOAR and 66% of them voted against Hidden Creek, in 1999.

Clearly, by a 2 to 1 margin at the polls on Jan. 12, 1999, Moorpark voters rejected the previous incumbents' (Evans' and Rodgers') anti-SOAR vision for Moorpark.

Instead voters supported Mikos' vision to protect open space, while still allowing sufficient development that follows the city's approved General Plan.

Thank you for supporting Mikos again in 2004 and sharing her vision to preserve open space and agricultural land.

Thank you for supporting Mikos again in 2006 to defeat the North Park urban sprawl housing project 3 to 1 in the same location as the failed 1999 Hidden Creek Project!  Thanks to SOAR, you were able to vote on North Park--to confirm our shared vision to preserve open space and agricultural land.
